What, When, Where: Green With Envy

May 13, 2013

Things are pretty busy here in the New England Home office these days. We just wrapped up our 2013 Cape & Islands issue (watch for it in your mailbox in the next few weeks-it’s a beauty!), and we’re in the middle of finalizing both our July/August and Connecticut Summer issues.

But, despite the fact that this time of year is our most jam-packed, working on summer issues is my favorite, and that has everything to do with the photos that appear inside each of them. As much as I love shots of snow-covered mountain estates and sprawling backyards piled with autumn leaves, to me, there aren’t many images that compare to (or inspire more personal envy than) the photos of the lush landscaping, relaxing pools and beach views that appear in our summer issues.

Since I don’t want to ruin the surprise of our upcoming magazines quite yet, I’ve put together some of my favorite pictures from previous years’ issues that might inspire you to spruce up your back patio or pool deck, or at least daydream about the summer months to come.

I could easily spend every day of my summer here. This shot, from a house in the Cos Cob section of Greenwich, appeared in last summer’s Connecticut issue.

Beach homes don’t get much dreamier than this Catalano Architects-designed waterfront property in Chatham. The home’s covered-patio-with-a-view, below, made the cover of our July-August 2012 issue.

The home’s pool area was another cover contender.

The deck of this summer home in Litchfield County, Connecticut would provide an ideal place to gather with family and friends to watch the sun set over Lake Waramaug.
