Sneak Peek: Modest Beauty

Anyone who saw my last “Friday Favorite†knows that I have a long-standing fascination with New England whaling. On the Cape and its islands, there are many towns that made their name as whaling ports, but one that stands out is Edgartown. A town with a distinct history and style, Edgartown seems unchanged since the days of open-boat whaling.

In our upcoming Cape and islands issue we feature a home in Edgartown that feels as old as the town itself, but was actually built recently. With all of the restrictions and requirements that Edgartown puts in place on new construction, the final home is a true testament to architects Brooks & Falotico and Edgartown builder Peter Rosbeck Jr. The home they’ve built is distinct and unique, while also honoring the soul and history of its neighborhood.
