Kathie Chrisicos: Trends to Bring Home

November 10, 2015

While in Paris to attend Maison & Objet, I had a chance to visit the AD Interieurs Concept Show House at the beautiful Palais d’Iena.

For its 6th edition, AD Intérieurs 2015 invited visitors to consider the home of the future through a unique exhibition featuring the work of fifteen designers and interior architects. This was no Junior League Show House, or even Kips’ Bay, but a conceptual approach to living where the idea is as important as the execution. While the vignettes were given the names of a specific rooms in a home, they were not intended as true representations of practical spaces. Instead, designers pushed the boundaries of scale, proportion, color and even taste.

That being said, I noticed some compelling trends that I am eager to incorporate into my own work.  Here are three of my favorite:

Black Upholstery– Upholstering antique pieces or more traditional forms in black or other dark moody colors gives them an instant modern update.

Shades of Green– While it may seem to be a taste specific color, teal is ascending in popularity. Its warmth works well in both traditional and contemporary settings.

Low Seating– This louche look is gaining traction, and not just for ultra-mod interiors. Sofas and chairs that have you practically sitting on the floor add a sophisticated casual touch.
