Design in Depth: Privet House

May 29, 2013

To tell you exactly how a store that’s fantastic can get any better, I would have to tell you about Privet House. Last summer in our Connecticut edition of New England Home we interviewed the owners Suzanne Cassano and Richard Lambertson just before the launch of their capsule collection for the Target chain. Their Warren, Connecticut, store was then a destination for the design cognoscenti as was Suzanne’s Vol. 1 Antiques next door.

Just a few weeks ago however, they closed the Warren location to reopen a larger, grander space combining Privet House and Vol. 1 in New Preston, Connecticut, not far from the beautiful shores of Lake Waramaug.

Here’s a peek inside this wonderful shop kept by two of the region’s most cultured eyes.

They still have my favorite collection of brushes and dusters for every use imaginable.

Upstairs is devoted entirely to fresh antiques. I say fresh because there’s a way that these are presented and the particular fabrics they are covered in that make them feel entirely new but with a certain pedigree.

They have a famous collection of books, all vintage and impossible to find, some signed.

Be sure to check out their wonderful neighbors, J. Seitz and Pergola amog others when you stop by this summer. You can also find Privet House in Greenwich, Connecticut.
