Design in Depth: Closeted Style

It’s spring cleaning time and I’m suffering from closet envy. As I pack away the winter wear and shake out the summer dresses I am reminded what a cramped closet I have. In a perfect world I would have a 20′ x 25′ space filled with custom cabinetry for scarves, shoes, jewelry and long dresses, complete with an island for folding and packing and space for an entire set of matching luggage.

But, alas, it is just a dream at this point so why not dream big? Here are some inspirational images that I’ve added to my file when I do get to build the closet of my dreams.

I love the bright-white cleanliness of this space designed by Portsmouth, New Hampshire-based TMS Architects. Oh, how I now long for a window seat in my dream closet!

While this Rod Mickley-designed closet for “her†in Vero Beach, Florida, is smaller, it has the great additions of fantastic light fixtures and a shell mirror.

Lonny magazine always seems to include a few great closets in each of their issues. I love the table and chairs in this one (and the shoe collection–to die!).

In this gentleman’s dressing room, designed by Cindy Rinfret, the client said he wanted the closet to feel like the Ralph Lauren store.

My favorite story, though (true as well), is that of my style icon, Anna Dello Russo. She turned the apartment next door into her closet. That’s the ultimate in obsessive chic!
