Custom Rugs for a Cause

August 28, 2014

By Kyle Hoepner

Only two weeks now until our fifth (!) annual “5 Under 40” awards celebration takes place on the evening of Thursday, September 11. It’s always great fun, a chance to honor some of New England’s most promising younger architects and designers and also a party that has become a kind of unofficial fall season kickoff for the design community.

Winners for 2014 are Gregory H. Ehrman and Alec Tesa in the architecture category, Jill Goldberg in the interior design category, J. Brandon Jones in the landscape design category, and Pauline Curtiss in the specialty design category.

But another aspect of the event makes it just that much more worthwhile: the chance to bid on absolutely original custom rugs designed by our five honorees. Painstakingly crafted by the weavers of presenting sponsor Landry & Arcari, the rugs are one-of-a-kind pieces that just a handful of lucky people will be able to take home and live with.

Better yet, proceeds from the auction go to benefit the Cambridge, Massachusetts-based charity Barakat, which supports educational initiatives, particularly for girls and women, in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

So please join us—plus celebrity auctioneers Billy Costa and Jenny Johnson of Kiss 108 FM and NESN’s Dining Playbook—for this special evening. Maybe you will be the one to take home a unique example of the weaver’s art and change a life in south Asia.
