A Back Bay Home’s Return to Grandeur

Back Bay Renovated Townhome Living Room

Elegant is a word we design writers sometimes use too freely. It just seems like the right word to describe so many things—from formal homes to refined furnishings—that we sometimes dilute its meaning. No worries here. The September-October 2015 issue of New England Home features the story of a Back Bay renovation—the tale of an incomparably elegant home. The homeowners saw potential in the tired five-story townhouse and enlisted architect Bob Paladino and designer Cynthia Deysher to revive it. The 1878 residence had been many things over its long history, including a private club and an apartment building. Needless to say, a good deal of reconstructive surgery was required before it could be furnished in period (and oh, so elegant) style. The transformation story is fascinating, and the photographs that accompany it are absolutely stunning. Don’t miss it.
