Karin Lidbeck Brent, Contributing Editor On a recent trip to Burlington, Vermont I had the exciting opportunity to work with a custom furniture shop there. The Vermont Farm Table, smack in the center of Burlington, is owned by entrepreneurial designer Dustin Galscoe. The Vermont Farm Table has just moved into a seriously trendy and stylish shop at 197 College Street that is full of personality and visual fun. The store is beautifully styled with the tables and the many other handcrafted wood accessories they make, all stylishly mixed together with fresh home accents and textiles. The table selection is very varied and quite extensive, all made from reclaimed and historic New England materials. What I love most is their mix and match system: you pick the wood, the style leg, the table top style and the size and they make it to your specifications.

A variety of wood choices.

Each Vermont Farm Table is constructed with traditional mortise-and-tenon joinery and finished with environmentally friendly oils. Check out their farm table choice online at www.vermontfarmtable.com. If you go to Burlington be sure to stop in this fun store. If you’re not in the market for a table there is a lot more here. I loved these wood rolling pins creatively marketed like French bread in a paper sleeve. That’s the kind of creativity you will find here.

Freshly baked bread or rolling pins?

Paula M. Bodah, Senior Editor Next time a hurricane rears its ugly head, I’ll be prepared with a collection of lanterns that run on good old-fashioned candle power. Ventetucci Home, on the corner of Bellevue Avenue and Williams Street in Newport, has a good-looking group from Interlude Home, a Trumbull, Connecticut–based lighting company.
