Our favorite craft guru and stylist shares creative ideas for adding some Halloween spirit to your home.

Since my earliest days as a DIY designer working for magazines like Good Housekeeping and Better Homes and Gardens, creating Halloween decor has been a big part of my gig. I always try to keep my ideas simple and inspiring so readers can create something fun without any stress.

These cat Jack O’ Lanterns are assembled with a variety of pumpkin shapes, some simple carving, and black spray paint. I added sticky back diamond strips around the eyes for a dazzling effect.

This is easy Halloween décor idea for your front door. A mix of bare branches, bats and crows creates big impact and a classic Halloween look.  I took a simple vine wreath and places paper bats throughout. The door was then flanked by decorative branches cut from the yard and several pumpkins. The trick here is to cut holes in the top of the pumpkins to hold the branches upright.

Not too long ago I decided to revisit the world of crafting with crepe paper, which was used heavily in crafting before the 1950’s. Large sheets of crepe paper can be folded to make DIY slipcovers for spooky gravestones. Here crepe paper rolls—found in abundance at your local craft store—were used to create a cascading canopy over a dining table. A decorated paper lanterns with painted spider webs to complete the look.
